Hello there!
When you receive a MAYA Patterns pattern, you will receive 2 PDF files:
The Sewing Pattern
The Assembly Guide
So in this post, I've chosen to tell you a bit more about how I work with the Assembly Guides.
First of all, I try to think of the writing and layout of these guides for all levels of sewing: for beginners, those for whom it is perhaps the first project and for the more experienced, those for whom step by step is not necessary.
The challenge is to be precise without making the reading too heavy!
So here is how I proceed:
For beginners
Each step is detailed, starting from the pattern printout and accompanied by a technical video.
Each video lasts about 1 to 5 minutes and is accessible via a qrcode on the Assembly Guide. For those who do not print the Assembly Guide but consult it on a screen, the link is also accessible by clicking on the qrcode, which will generate a new page for reading the video.
On these videos, no blah blah blah, each step is filmed and the explanations are mentioned on the screen. So for night-time sewers (or children-nap-time sewers - experience), no need for headphones, or to put your ear to your phone to follow the explanations!
The technical videos present either a general technical point applicable to different projects, or the realisation of an entire step, thus dedicated to the sewing project in question.
If you want to see one or more tutorial videos, it's here: https://youtube.com/channel/UCkIqO2y3MnZ79m7QVVnTqyw
In addition to the videos, you will find lots of tricks in the "TIPS" or "ECO GESTURE" inserts, which are mostly feedback, sewing tips, or information related to sewing terms, etc. ...
For the more experienced
At the beginning of the guide, you will find a summary of the construction stages, which allows you to have a global vision of the articulation of the stages and thus to directly consult the desired stage.
At the end of the guide, I include an article entitled "Finishing inspirations" which centralises all the various inspirations that were created or tested during the creation of the model's prototypes. So the model can be made in its classic version, but I pay particular attention to the creativity that can be born around a sewing pattern, so this article is there to inspire you and develop your own style.
The link to the lookbook of the collection can also help you in the choice of your fabrics, colours or accessories.
So to sum up, here is what you will find in the MAYA Patterns Assembly Guides:
Clear and detailed steps
Video tutorials accessible via a QR code
Tips and tricks
Ideas of inspirations and finishing touches
But also
Level of difficulty
Estimated completion time (based on my own experience, but don't worry, I'm a slow sewer)
Size chart
Precise shopping list with lengths according to sizes
Visualization of the assembled pattern
Summary of the construction steps
Table with all the references of the pattern parts
Diagram showing the layout of the pieces on the folded fabric
And if you still have questions, contact me! :-)
Let's go back to it, I have several guides to finalise before the launch of the BLOSSOM collection!
Have a nice sewing day!
